In Hindi language, “Bhabi” literally means Sister-in-Law. However, men would refer to a friend’s girlfriend or wife as “Bhabhi,” implying they respect their friend’s female partner as much as they respect their own Sister-in-Law.
Below are the reasons for referring to a friend’s wife or girlfriend as “Bhabhi.”
Friend = Brother
Brother’s wife = Sister-in-Law (Bhabhi)
Friend’s Girlfriend = Friend’s wife (Assuming friend will marry his girlfriend)
